Neville A Doubt For Wolves
Captain a doubt & Victor Anichebe out of Saturday's home clash.
Philip Neville
Mikel Arteta
Phil Neville is a doubt for Saturday's Goodison Park opener against Wolves as Victor Anichebe is ruled out once again.
The Blues skipper has a foot injury and will undergo a fitness test in the morning before a decision is made on his availability for the contest with Mick McCarthy's outfit.
He is the only doubt from the squad that travelled to Blackburn last weekend. Anichebe remains an absentee with a knee problem. Everton boss David Moyes admits the Nigerian's versatility is missed in the squad.
He told evertonfc.com: "Phil Neville has a sore foot which will need to be checked tomorrow morning.
"Victor Anichebe still has bone bruising. We are missing him and we could do with getting him back in the squad quite quickly. He has had an injection in his knee to try and help that but, in the main, we are fortunate that we don't have many injuries right now."
The contest on Saturday is Everton's first on home soil in the 2010/11 season. And the Goodison chief is relishing the prospect of having so many players available to choose from for the contest.
He added: "We have been in a situation in the past where we have been short of players, trying to bring people back and trying to fill a starting 11. Over the years we have had to play players who were not 100 per cent fit. We don't have that worry this year so we will have to see which players come to the fore, we will see who will stand up and put their name forward to say they will be the one for us. After last week, I couldn't put many names forward. But the squad is all fit and now we have competition for places so we want people to stand up and take the jersey. We will switch things around a bit from week to week if we feel it is necessary."

Paul HowellsCason Tang I hope you're wrong with your prediction of Johnny Heitinga RB. I think playing him there is a waste. He is so much better at either CB or CM. Against physical teams he really toughens up the midfield when he plays defensive CM. I think agaisnt wolves we need him and either Felli or Rodwell in CM together to add a bit of steel to the middle of the park. That may mean putting Mikky out on the right where I dont think he is as effective and probably doesnt want to be there. Other option is to play Timmy on the right and allow Mikky in the middle in front of Johnny and Felli/Rodders but again he is not as effective there. can we not just play a 4-8-3 ha ha and have Pienaar, Billy, Felli, Rodders, Mikky, Heitinga, Cahill and Osman in midfield???? and Yak Beckford and King Louis up front ha ha???

CRAIG WEILDINGFAO Mr Moyes. My fellow fans are shouting for young Coleman. Is he ready ? Or would you rather go for experience (ie Hibbert) in the very important business of PL football. Its up to you. Our manager who we know is the best. COYB.

Mark HooleyBoth Hibbo and Coleman get foreward and have a great cross on them, would it be so crazy to try one of them at right midfield? Can't be any more crazy than playing Osman there surely. Or maybe Moyes will play the same team and formation we have had for the past 3 years who knows?
Saturday 21st August 07:11 Report CommentCason TangI believe Moyes will use Heitinga in RB, but Coleman should make the bench. But Billy should start in place of Osman. We need speed. Also Rodwell should be given a chance in place of Fellaini, as he didn't look like he was 100% in fitness yet. Wolves are very physical as well very similar to Blackburn. We drew twice last season and we must run out of the gate and attack at higher efficiency.

Malcolm BubbIf it's a five man mid at home, I'd like to see Billy started ahead of Osman who can be ready to come on and tighten things up.
Friday 20th August 23:22 Report CommentDerek YatesSaw Wolves last week and they will be no pushover. Jags and co will have to watchout for Kevin Doyle Steven Fletcher and Dave Jones. Also at the back Jody Craddock Richard Stearman are tough nuts to crack. But I cannot see no more than a superblues win in their first game at home. COYB you can do it.

Dave O'NeillIf we have to play Hibbert, i really hope we don't put Osman on the right as well or else our right hand side will be extremely weak. Lets hope Coleman makes the bench at least, and gets some playing time. Osman has got to be on the bench though, no way does he deserve to be in the starting 11 ahead of Rodwell or Heitinga,

John HauIt makes me so happy to hear our manager finally talking some sense, no point in defending your player in the first game of the season, we have no injure problem and certainly no fitness problem, it was simply an awful performance and some of the player must be replace, the manager must show he is capable of making changes or we would never go beyond what we achieve previously, if we stay in our comfort zone! Hibbert & Neville are dependable but that is not what we need, if we play Coleman and gotten a goal or two lead, then we replace him with Hibbert or Neville to hold out the lead or the other way round would still work, but if Coleman is not on the bench we can't even do that. I have already said it many time Osman is no good as a RM, he is only good when he is in the middle of the park, if Anichebe is not available we always have Billy or Gueye, and pienaar can play on either side.

Paul HowellsCould turn out to be a blessing in disguise, or not. It will hopefully give young mustard his opportunity and if he plays well then it will be difficult for Moyes to drop him (you would hope). Plus knowing Neville he will still be on the sideline barking orders and rallying the team. However Craig Weilding makes a good point, if Coleman plays and makes a vital error we all need to take a look. I have said in the past I dont think coleman is ready to take on a full premier league season and own that position. However against opposition such as wolves at home I would imagine this is the time to get him them vital minutes on the pitch that will give him the experience he needs to be ready to make the position his own.

Sammy OwenUmmm Adam Furlong your starting XI is only a starting X...... Put Cahill behind Beckford! And by the way people Moyes won't start Coleman tomorrow, it'll be Hibbert. Watch this space!

adam furlongGood news for Seamus honestly can't see Moyes droppin Neville for him so this could give the kid his chance.....startin line up tomorrow Howard, Jags, Distin, Baines, Heitinga, Arteta, Fellaini, Pienaar, Rodwell, Beckford....Rodwell given the chance to shine as captain for the under 21's and grabbed it with both hands an Beckford scores goals for fun so let's give these lads a chance we've got the squad now lets use it....COYB

CRAIG WEILDINGWell that would be a BIG loss. You are all getting excited saying put young Coleman in but if he makes a vital error make sure you remember you were all shouting for him to start. In a way i would be tempted to play Hibbert. He is better defence minded. COYB.
