Boss Backs Armband Claim
David Moyes agrees that Mikel Arteta is a future Club captain.
David Moyes agrees with Phil Neville's assessment that Mikel Arteta is a future Club captain for Everton.
The current Blues skipper made the claim this week based on the footballing influence the Spanish playmaker brings to the Everton side.
And Moyes is in agreement, suggesting that Arteta has benefited from the leadership example set by Neville, who has been Everton's Club skipper since 2007.
Moyes told evertonfc.com: "I think we have seen those qualities in Mikel - he can become a future captain. In Mikel we have someone who has pledged himself to the Club. It was a big decision for him and he now knows that if he wants success at the Club he has to make sure the rest of the players do the same. He needs to drag the team with him.
"The way Phil Neville has done it over the years has been brilliant. He has been a brilliant leader and a great example for the other players who see how hard he works on the training ground.
"Phil came here with great habits from a really good club that taught him that winning was the thing you have to do, not just once but continually. Hopefully, Mikel will have picked up off Phil and Mikel will then take it on in the future if he is ever asked to do the job."
Arteta penned a new five year contract last week, citing his belief in the side's ability to win silverware has the factor that convinced him to turn his back on a move away from Goodison Park.
He skippered the side during pre-season when Neville was not present on the pitch.

Milin ChandraFUTURE CAPT --ARTETA FUTURE LEGEND(or now is)-CAHILL FUTURE MANAGER--(CAHILL)
Saturday 21st August 14:55 Report CommentSaegaran KanalanadanMikel ..yes. future capt but not Cahill. We saw last season when there were so many missing players. Cahill couldn't handle the pressure and it affected his own game. His game only recovered after Neville came back in and took the armband. Cahill ...future legend, Mikel ...future Capt!

Ross Jacksonthere could be many captains at everton i.e mikel, jagielka, heitinga, osman and hibbert and even jack rodwell as a long term option because as a young u21 it didnt seem to bother him as captain and took the pressre easy. n was man of match. but for next everton captain it has to be tim cahill. no argument hes everton thru n thru. even though it will be tough between mikel and cahill. i think tim will edge it because he seems more like a captain figure. anyone agree

joe crosseThe player i would like to see wear the armband is timmy he never once turned his head from this great club of ours and deserves the honour of wearing the armband and would most defnitley wear it with pride so lets not forget our Timmy coyb.
Friday 20th August 19:14 Report Commentmehdi karmii reackon we should give him it now. i love neville and like to thank him for been a great leader but if this club where to move foward i think coleman would have to start and for us not to put neville in midfield where we have loads of brilliant mids that struggle to start like rodwell sometimes and billy. i just think your time is over mate. i know alot of people will disagree but its my opinion. colemann and baines.

CRAIG WEILDINGMikel is clearly worthy of being captain. If just for showing loyalty and commitment to our club alone.

Patrick MooreCan`t you just feel the love? The start of a new phase of life for Mik, let`s hope we see him at his most creative now. Settled with his wife and the club, fully fit and still believing in that first cap. There`s no reason why this shouldn`t be the best season of his career so far. Fingers crossed!
