Goals Delight Moyes

David Moyes' thoughts on the Blues' trip to Deepdale.

Goals Delight Moyes

David Moyes was delighted to see his side begin to loosen their goalscoring shackles with a vibrant 3-0 victory over Preston North End.

Jermaine Beckford netted his first goals in an Everton shirt, scoring the first and third either side of a great finish from Louis Saha.

The victory makes it four wins from four in pre-season for the Blues.

And the manager was understandably pleased with the result, the performance and, crucially, the goals.

He told evertontv: "It was a good win, we can't hide it or say anything else - it was a good win.

"We played well enough to win and we deserved it. I think we've been needing to score a few goals - I've been a wee bit disappointed that we've only been winning games 1-0 or 2-1. I think our play has warranted more so today we actually finished our chances."

The second half flourish that swung the match decisively in Everton's favour followed the half-time arrival of substitutes Beckford and Seamus Coleman.

Moyes added: "At half-time it was 0-0 and it was still quite tight. I wanted to make sure Seamus and Jermaine got at least 45 minutes and both of them came on and had an impact. Its great to see that our play is improving all the time. We also want to make sure that it is not too pretty and we need to score some orthodox goals."

Beckford had to be withdrawn minutes from the end, but the manager insists it is not a major concern.

He concluded: "There is nothing to worry about. He just got a kick on the top of his foot. He went to pull his leg back and kicked the sole of the boy's boot. But he should be okay."

Paul DonnellyIt's a great win for us, but I think it's too early to get carried away with "deadly striking partnerships". We have to remember that we were playing Preston North End, there is a difference in ability compared to many teams in the prem... BUT that's not to say I don't hope that Saha/Beckford form a good partnership. COYB

paul parkesIt has to be 4-4-2 playing 1 up front is to negative the time to do that is when we are leading by a couple of goals near the end of the game. Getting good vibes if all the team pull there weight. Lets make it a season to remember. Blue till i die.........

barry delaneyWatched the game on Everton TV and thought the team played really well -a good passing game! Beckford scored two good goals and looks really promising for the future. A couple of chances and he nailed them. Seamus Coleman produced another sound display when he came on. He looks comfortable on the ball and going forward. Arteta's performance in the first half showed why he is so important to the team. Hopefully the knock Beckford took is not too serious I think he will be an important player for us this season. COYB !

John CoadyGlad Beckford is ok. His and the Kings partnership will be crucial this season. Today has given us a nice glimpse of what may be. 3 nil is a good result against anyone and it's even better that the strikers have scored all the goals. Long may it continue. COYB!

Barry LowtherWhat a good solid performance, lots of promise being shown for the coming season. Having been one of Hibbos biggest critics in the past, I must hold my hands up and say that, although he has always been a great tackler, he has come on leaps and bounds with his interchange passing down the wing and crosses into the box. Only downer today was that he didn't get his elusive goal. COYB
