"Tim's Told Us All About It"
Jack Rodwell reveals how Tim Cahill has been hyping up Oz trip.
Jack Rodwell says the pressure is all on Tim Cahill ahead of Everton's visit to Australia - and it's not just because he's one of the country's biggest stars.
The Aussie midfielder has been telling his Blues team-mates all about his homeland ahead of the tour Down Under which begins this weekend.
Having heard the hype, Rodwell, who will be making his first trip to Australia, is certain he won't be disappointed.
"I've heard great things about Australia,” the youngster said in an exclusive interview with evertonTV. “Though, having said that, it's mainly been from Tim Cahill! He's always going to say it's good, so it's on his head really! No, in all seriousness, you just know it's going to be one of those fantastic places to visit.
"Obviously it's a long trip but I've never been before and I'm sure it will be good for us in terms of bonding, sight-seeing and getting some good games under our belt before the new season.
"I’m looking forward to maybe getting a few hours off in the afternoons to look around but, most importantly, I’m hoping the games and the training will be good and we'll all be fighting fit for the first game of the season."
Cahill is currently in Australia waiting for his Everton team-mates to arrive and Rodwell believes it's massive for football fans Down Under that the Socceroos star is involved in the tour.
The 30-year-old has returned home after featuring for his country at the World Cup in South Africa but has delayed holiday plans to feature in the games against Sydney FC and Melbourne Heart.
Rodwell said: "He's obviously a massive player over there, a hero and it will be a massive boost for us and for our fans and other fans in Australia to see Tim joining up with us over there."
The Blues will end their tour with a third game against Brisbane Roar and Rodwell admitted he is excited about discovering exactly what the A-League has to offer. He’s hoping the Blues may even help to unearth a hidden gem.
"I'm not really too familiar with the league but I'm looking forward to finding out more," he said. "We've played against a lot of MLS teams in recent seasons and last season we beat the MLS All-Stars. Landon Donovan was playing for them and we could all see then how good he was. Who knows? There may be another surprise this time. We're all looking forward to seeing what the A-League is all about."
