Gosling Begins His Recovery
EXCLUSIVE on the midfielder's injury following knee surgery.
Steve Round has revealed to evertonfc.com that Dan Gosling's injury is not as serious as first feared.
The 20-year-old has been ruled out for the start of the 2010/11 season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee but following surgery the Blues’ assistant boss has revealed the expected rehabilitation time has improved for the midfielder.
"Dan is doing very good after his surgery," the Everton assistant manager exclusively told evertonfc.com. "There was less damage than we first thought so that was a positive.
"The surgery went really well. We are very pleased with his progress so far but it is going to be a long haul for the boy," he added. "He has got a lot of rehabilitaion to do and a lot of hard work ahead of him."
The midfielder's season was cut short after a collision with Wolves keeper Marcus Hahnemann during the 0-0 draw in March.
Gosling had made 17 Premier League appearances for Everton during the 2009/10 campaign and scored 3 goals including one superb effort to take the lead against Manchester United.
Round says the young Blues star's rehabilitation has now started following delayed surgery.
"They couldn't do the operation straight away because of the swelling but Dan was still about with us all at Finch Farm.
"There was a lot of swelling on the knee so we had to wait for it to settle down," he explained. "The surgeon was really good, he is one of the best in the world. He has been very successful for us in the past.
"All being well, if Dan puts the time and effort in, listens to the physios and follows the programme there is no reason why he shouldn't make a full recovery."
