Cahill Close To New Deal
The Australian is close to securing a new long-term contract.
Everton have confirmed they are close to securing a new long-term contract with Tim Cahill.
The Aussie international has two years to run on his existing contract but Goodison chiefs have been keen to extend that deal.
The Blues are confident the 30-year-old will sign a new four year deal before the World Cup kicks-off in South Africa next month.
Chief executive Robert Elstone said: "We are at an advanced stage of negotiation with Tim and his representatives and we would be hopeful of concluding an extension to Tim's current deal and put pen to paper on a new four year contract before he departs for the World Cup."
The deal would effectively mean Cahill spending the remainder of his senior professional career at Goodison, although the player himself has made no secret over the fact he would one-day like to play in his native Australia.
The Socceroo recently celebrated his 200th start for the Blues. He has been a huge hit on Merseyside since his move from Millwall in 2004, netting 56 goals from 209 games.
He was rested for yesterday's final-day victory over Portsmouth, watching the game from the stands before turning his attention to his World Cup preparations.

Bob MillwardGood for you, Tim. You've shown the rest that playing for our beloved Club is not just about money. I really do hope that you can persuade the likes of Mikel and Stephen to do the same. Just how much money do these players really need when they retire?? Or is it their agents wanting to get their grubby hands on a healthy slice of cash?? I'm pretty sure that if it was left to the players themselves, they would sign in an instant. Come on lads, do the right thing, you know you want to!!! COYB!!! IMWT!!!

Mark JamesThanks Tim, if the older players show their long term commitment to the club it will encourage the younger lads to sign. I'd like to see the majority of squad sign long term contracts. If that happens then realistically we should look at bringing in the usual bargains and invest in a class striker. Don't think we were ready for the champions league just yet - but we could be in 12 months time. A rest from the Europa should do us good. Good times ahead!

Monday 10th May 11:40 Report CommentJohn HauThis is without a doubt a great piece of news, but with Cahill still have two more year to run on his contract, I am more concern with extending Pienaar's contract, which only has a year to run, we cannot afford to lose our newer crown player of the season, the next piece of news I want to hear is Pienaar has signed a extension copntract with Everton!
