David Moyes is confident Steven Pienaar will agree a new deal at Everton before the World Cup.

The South African has been one of Everton's best performers this season.

Pienaar's current contract runs until the summer of 2011 and there have been reports in the national media linking him with a move away from Goodison. However, Moyes offered a massive boost to Everton fans when he revealed on Friday that he expects a new deal to be agreed soon.

He was asked at his pre-match press conference whether he was confident a deal would be agreed before the World Cup.

"Yes," he replied. "The talks have been on going for some time.  I hope we will and I am sure we will.

"I think Steven Pienaar has found somewhere that suits him.  The supporters like him.  He did well at Ajax then went to Dortmund but it didn't happen for him.  We brought him here on loan when he was a bit down and gave him that platform so I think he's found a good home."

Moyes also provided an update on Jack Rodwell's contract situation, confirming that talks were ongoing over a renewal of the England Under-21 star's deal that has four years to run.

"Jack has got a four-year contract at the moment so all it is is a renewal of his contract," explained Moyes. "Both players are under contract so it is not as if we have got any panic on. They are both Everton players."

brendan o carrollI think if we can keep the current squad we have and ad a big physical striker like oscar cardoza or nikola zigic and a pacey winger like yannick djaolo or mancini which we lacked last season until the arrival of donovan who injected life into the squad when going foward

David Kellyi agree but we all know that even if we did sell rodwell which i hope we dont it will only be beneficial to everton like in the rooney deal which could mean we could buy those 2 quality players we need just think if we would of actually baught darren bent last season when we was so close too how them 25 goals could of helped the team

eric mcnamaraIts imperative that Everton hold onto our squad, Peanut is outstanding.... would he be outstasnding at another club as he is with Everton, ask Lescott.. he has fallen from grace at an alarming rate since he left. The top scoring defender too, he once was.

Paul Ellami am glad to see everton are being proactive after whats happened in previous seasons. lets get the players we want BEFORE the world cup and give them a chance to train with the rest of the squad for weeks instead of trying to introduce them mid-season! we only need 1 or 2 additions anyway, what is more important is that we keep this squad together because they (and the rest of the league) know that we are a club to fear

Paul HowellsTotally agree with what Real Toffee has said there, we need for Pienaar and Rodwell to not be turned by the rubbish the media put out there, keep their feet on the ground and realise they have something great at Everton which they wont find elsewhere - a great team spirit, a squad who want them and fans who love them - the things money cant buy. They only need to look at lescott now to see he isn't half the player at the moment as he was for two seasons with us. Not always getting a game and when he does he doesnt look as confident, solid or reliable as he did in royal blue. Like Moysie said in an earlier interview "If anybody wanted to leave, they'd be poorer for it. Most people that have left here, it's not tended to work out for them."

Kevin JamesEverton does suit pienaar and surely he knows it, not only does he see in training every day quality players everywhere who are improving every season but other players have left to go to the 'brighter lights' and it simply dosen't work out for them (with the exception of rooney) He knows that if we keep this current squad and keep adding a couple of worthy additions each year we will improve year after year until we become one of the dominant forces in this league. Sign stevie p!!

Mikel ArreguiI reckon the rest of the PL clubs can see the huge potential this squad has, otherwise we wouldn't be hearing all this stuff about Pienaar, Moyes, Rodwell... Should we keep them on and with Donovan and a fine striker we must be a top 4 next year bar injuries. Come on Everton, let's go back to the 80s!

Wai Kin LowHeard Spurs or Chelsea interested in Pienaar. Please keep him at everton. With he and arteta, our passing became flawless. I think we invade spurs and chelsea for bentley and joe cole instead of selling our players to them

Michael FoxThere are two words that describe the dedication, commitment and work rate that makes somebody an Everton legend.......Steven pienaar

Real ToffeeLet's not get ourselves in another Lescott situation which cost us our season. Contracts nowadays mean nothing when the likes of moneybags Man City and Chelsea come calling. Pienaar and Rodwell, please don't let the media turn your heads we need you – the fans love you and the grass is not always greener you're at a great club! Let's stay together and win something next season. In Moyes we trust!

Jonny ArtetaWe need to be keeping our current stars and adding to the squad. It's a sign that Everton are on the up if the big 4 teams are sniffing around our squad. Come on Bill Kenwright lets dig deep and keep our current stars and flourishing players. Lets get peanuts, rodwell on the contracts they's only a matter of time before we repeat the success of the 80's!!!! It's nearly all clicking into place again. COYB!!!
