Mikel Arteta admits it was a risk playing against Blackburn but it was a decision that paid off.

The Spaniard hadn't featured for the Blues since scoring in the 2-0 at Manchester City on 24 March after suffering a groin problem.

In his pre-match press conference, David Moyes revealed the match at Ewood Park would come too soon for Arteta.

But the midfielder exclusively told evertonfc.com that he was willing to take a gamble.

"We did a scan before the game and it showed that my injury wasn't cleared completely but we said we need to take a risk," Arteta said.

"We took a risk to be honest, because they said I needed more time with being out but it was a really important game.

"I knew if we won the game then we would be up for the challenge to get in Europe.  We are all so happy now we have the result."

The playmaker scored in the dramatic 3-2 win at Rovers, securing his fifth goal of the season from the penalty spot.

It's been twelve weeks since Arteta made his long awaited return from the serious knee injury that saw him miss 11 months.

The Spaniard says he felt no ill-effects from playing on Saturday and was relieved to play the full 90 minutes.

"I feel fine, we won the game and we had to take a chance,” he said.

"I think it was worth it and I felt ready. I have been training hard and I have been trying to keep myself fit."

Mikel ArreguiIt was worth the risk, indeed! The team plays differently with Arteta, the ball flows easier thank to his gifted playmaking abilities. We need him and the rest of our top players for these last 3 games to try to qualify for Europe. But whatever the outcome if we reatin these players for next players, we sign Donovan and they stay healthy enough, Everton can be a top 4 team for sure! COYB! IMWT!

Bob MillwardTalking of legends, Mikel is one in the making and it won't be long before he reaches icon status, if he hasn't already. Pederson should count himself a very lucky little boy that Duncan wasn't on the pitch on Saturday. Otherwise he would have received more than a little poke in the eye!!! Keep working hard Mikel, it's all coming good again. We've missed you but you're getting back to your very best now. COYB!!! IMWT!!!

Doug TurnerGetting straight to the point I think Pederson got the point that Everton thinks Europe isn’t a pointless task after all! Arteta was determined to get all 3 points at any cost! Pointing out as always the difference in class!

John HauIt was great to have you available playing against Blackburn, as our only natural playmaker in the squad, you made a big difference to our game, last couple of games we only manage some draws, when we should have hold on or extend our lead or taking a lead, but we looks rather lost without you, seems like no one is taking control of the midfield, so it made it easier for them making a come back. To put it simple "we need you on the playing field" And it was delightful to hear you are likely to be available again for our Fulham game. Now let's hope Heitinga could make a swift return in our next game as well.
