Donovan's Goal Relief

The American on his Hull strike as Galaxy confirm his Blues exit.

Landon Donovan was relieved to make up for his missed chance at Tottenham by signing off at Goodison with a goal.

The American scored in the 5-1 rout of Hull City on Sunday, just a week after missing a chance to draw the Blues level at White Hart Lane where the game ended with a 2-1 defeat.

"Last week was tough," Donovan told evertonTV.  "As an athlete unfortunately you are judged on a few seconds at a time.

"When I think of everything at Everton I want to think of the trip as a whole and think that I have been successful but in those moments it is hard as an athlete.

"After the manager named the team and I knew I wasn't starting I made sure I was going to be ready because I felt pretty bad after last week so I wanted to make some sort of contribution.”

The LA Galaxy striker is set to return to the States for the start of the MLS season after Saturday's trip to Birmingham.

Donovan says it was especially poignant for him to score in his final outing in front of the Goodison crowd.

"It has been fantastic and I could never have expected when I got here that it would turn out like this.

"The fans want you to play as hard as you can when you are out there," explained Donovan.  "That is what I like to give when I am out there and they want to see the team win.

"As nice as it was to score against Hull it is much nicer to win and when you have that in common with the fans I think there is a connection there."

Galaxy's opening game of the MLS season is on 27 March against New England.

LA Galaxy's head coach Bruce Arena confirmed: "Landon will be back here March 15. We're being consistent with everything we've said all along."

Mikel ArreguiSo is he leaving for sure? We'll miss you a lot Landon, you've got class on and off the field and are trully comitted to Everton, exactly what we need! I must admit I had my dobts, like others, when he came but he's a world class player and he showed it the way it has to be done, with commitment, passion and respect. Our american friends will have more information than me for sure, but I cannot understand how MLS don't let their superstar grow as a player, he deserves it! Nevertheless, I keep the faith and hope to see you back on Goodison next season Landon! With you, we'd have one of the best midfields in the world. For once, I'll cheer for the USA in the WC. Good luck Landon and thanks for all!

Soccer LAIs this now 100% sure? This feels like a forced break up! Especially because I really felt Donovan never played his best, and given a full season his scoring touch will assuredly grab hold. I think there will be a strong backlash and jeering in the states while Donovan plays for the MLS. Let's just hope Moyes can negotiate his return because there are many teams interested in signing him and I think MLS are trying to get the most they can. But it's not about the money anymore, it's about how great Everton fans and the team have been. This bond has made a lasting impression on American fans and the Don himself. This is about doing whats right- I hope to see #9 roaming Goodison for keeps next season! Thank you Everton faithful. I don't think you realize how much your support has endeared fans here in the US. COYB!!! (and keep your goalie he's good too!)

Eddy Carey JnrGive LAG as much money as they want, within reason. I say that because we've got a solid back line now with a bit of cover, and if we get Landon a very strong midfield when all fit. That means in the summer we only need one more striker that can score goals and with that we will be a match for anyone!

Eddy Carey JnrI Love You Landon! I so wished you could have stayed for longer but that doesn't seem possible, as LAG are demanding you back (for witch i don't blame them) as you are a WORLD class player. I hope they let you come to us in the summer, they should realize that the Premier League is far better than the MLS and a move to everton would further his career. Thats if shallow pockets Bill can cough up a few quid. USA! USA! COME ON EVERTON SIGN HIM UP.

Adam WilliamsAs an American, I was personally excited in December to hear that Landon was making the move to Everton. So many here questioned why, and from reading, apparently many also questioned him across the pond. But I feel Landon has shown the world what he is truly capable of. And, if all of the rumors surrounding big clubs like Chelsea are true, I would not be too worried. He has shown nothing but class throughout his career and values the support Everton has given him more than any amount of money can replace. I personally have loved watching Everton even before Landon arrived (mostly because of Tim Howard), but now find myself in permanent support and will remain a lifelong follower! On a final note, Bruce Arena should be ashamed. I understanding remaining true to your word, but this is a situation that is unlike anything the MLS has really seen before. If they truly value the league and want it to flourish, I feel that letting Landon continue to show the world his class (on and off the field) will only bring about the desire for more big name stars to join MLS down the road. Hopefully Landon will return permanently in the summer! COYB!

Mark LynchRegardless of wether you can stay a bit longer or not, i would like to give my heartfelt thanks to yourself, not for the goals that you have scored but for the effort in each game you have played.. i sincerley hope to see you pull on the Blue jersey of Everton FC as a fully fledged member of our proud and humble family. sometime in the not too distant future Good luck on your return to the USA, and best wishes in the world cup (against England being the only exception)

Rich LomantoBeing here is California, I can't believe the attitude Arena and the Galaxy are taking. You owe them and the MLS nothing. You do more for the sport in America by moving on. Everton has always been good to Americans and we over here thank all you Evertonians for that. It's nice to see the acceptance and support you have given Landon. I,m hoping he stays or goes back to you soon.

Mick EganStill gutted you are not stayin longer, though am sure Everton will be making bids in the summer to sign you!! You have made an unbelieveable impact in such a short space of time, to me you are an asset that can't be replaced. Your skill, pace and sheer desire to win and be the best you can be, is worth every penny of my season ticket!!!! Thanks Landon, good luck at the World Cup and hope to see you back here very soon.............COYB

Gaz SeftonWhen i first heard that we had signed donovan on loan, i was a little surprised that we had brought over an MLS Player to the hardest league in the world, i thought that he would not be able to compete and this level, and would be another wasted transfer, but how wrong i have been. Donovan's work ethic and ability has to be commended. He is a great player and a great person to boot. I would love to see him sign in the summer, but he is probably the best player in the MLS and we would need to offer probably the same money as we paid for bilyitdinov, which i hope we would have. We have strenghened our defense now, and we have enough midfielders too, so in my opinion there should be only one name on Moyes shopping list this summer, Landon! Thanks for the performances, the goals and your good spirit all round!!!

John HauIt would be sad when we Donovan leave us, but I did say we could used Coleman in the similar way as we did with Donovan in the Hull's game, Donovan came on sometime soon after second half start and he had caused so much problem to the Hull's defence. I suggest we could used Coleman pace to the similar effect by playing him in the RM in the last 20~30 mins of a game. Just a suggestion, as now we have Arteta back having pace on both side would allow our playermaker do more, but in the mean time we still have Donovan for Birmingham, but let's hope Donovan could play couple more games before going back!

Ajamu MutumwaI for one will be following your Galaxy progress from the 27th March, and of course feel some divided loyalty as you step out against blighty in June. Good luck with the Galaxy and I look forward to seeing you here with us next season.

John HauKeep up the good work, hope you score some more goal for us in the Birmingham game, it would be great if you could stay till 15th April, we could do with you playing more game before you leave, how long does a MLS season last? I did love to see Everton sign you up permanently in the summer, must of all I hope you enjoyed your timw with us and want to come back playing for us permanently or on-loan again, but of course permanently would be better, hope you could stay a bit longer with us!
