Loan Watch: Leban Shines In Clean-Sheet Display

It was another busy weekend of football with many of our Everton loanees in action for their temporary clubs. Here is an overview of how our players performed in this week’s Loan Watch...

Zan-Luk Leban – Farsley Celtic
Opponent: Curzon Ashton (H)
Competition: National League North
Date: Saturday 6 January
Result: 0-0 draw
Overview: A week on from earning the Player of the Match award against Scunthorpe United, Leban produced another fine display to help Farsley Celtic to earn a point over the promotion-seeking Curzon Ashton.

Farsley twice hit the woodwork during a dominant first-half performance, but the hosts looked improved after the interval.

The 21-year-old Leban was called into action to save free-kicks from Jordan Richards and Rhys Hughes, before pulling out a crucial stop to deny Jimmy Spencer during the final minutes of the contest.

Stanley Mills - Oxford United

Opponent: Coventry City (A)
Competition: FA Cup third round
Date: Saturday 6 January
Result: 6-2 defeat
Overview: Mills suffered a knee injury in Oxford’s FA Cup third round fixture on Saturday. Introduced as a second-half substitute at Coventry, the 20-year-old was stretchered off the field in stoppage time.

He has now returned to Finch Farm, where Mills will undergo surgery before rehabilitation under the care of Everton medical staff.

Neal Maupay - Brentford
Opponent: Wolves (H)
Competition: FA Cup third round
Date: Friday 5 January
Result: 1-1 draw
Overview: Maupay netted Brentford’s only goal in the Bees’ 1-1 FA Cup draw to Premier League opposition.

After 41 minutes, the French forward met the ball as it bounced in the box from a Brentford free-kick, and produced a first-time, left-footed finish to put his side in front.

Wolves, who had been reduced to 10 men after Joao Gomes’ first-half dismissal, managed to find an equaliser through Tommy Doyle on 64 minutes to send the tie to a replay.

Mason Holgate - Southampton
Opponent:
Walsall (H)
Competition: FA Cup third round
Date: Saturday 6 January
Result: 4-0 win
Overview: Holgate played the full 90 minutes as Southampton picked up a comfortable 4-0 win over Walsall in the FA Cup.

Victory for the Saints extends their form to 19 games unbeaten in all competitions.

Harry Tyrer - Chesterfield
Opponent: Watford (A)
Competition: FA Cup third round
Date: Saturday 6 January
Result: 2-1 defeat
Overview: Chesterfield’s No.1 Tyrer was on the bench for the Spireites cup tie on Saturday.

He saw his side come close to causing an upset over Watford, with Chesterfield taking the lead through Joe Quigley before the half-hour mark.

However, a second-half Hornets goal, before a 95th-minute winner from Tom Dele-Bashiru sent Watford into the next round.
