Phil Jagielka has been named Everton's Player of the Season.

The defender, who also scooped the Player's Player of the Year gong at the prestigious End of Season Awards dinner, was recognised by users of evertonfc.com as the campaign's outstanding performer.

A virtual ever-present until a serious knee injury sustained in late April ruled him out for the campaign, Jagielka's second season with the Blues has seen him truly establish himself as the rock at the heart of Everton's defence.

The campaign also brought call-ups to Fabio Capello's England squad and recognition from fellow professionals and Phil Jagielka has been named Everton's Player of the Season.

Speaking on stage about the injury which will rule him out of this month's FA Cup final, Jagielka said: "I have good days and bad days but I've got great people around me - my friends, family and team-mates.

"Hopefully the boys can do it [win the FA Cup] this year and I'll be back next year and we can do it again."

There was even more good news for Jagielka when chairman Bill Kenwright revealed that talks are underway over an improved contract for the player.

"Hopefully there will be more than one new contract in the pipeline," Kenwright said. "At this moment I am talking to three players and Phil is one."
