Everton finally look set to land Manuel Fernandes from Valencia for £6million.
The Portuguese ace has been told he can leave the Spanish club by new boss Unai Emery, having spent most of last season on loan at the Blues.
Goodison chief David Moyes has been desperate to sign the 22-year-old midfielder for two seasons and is in talks with Valencia about bringing him in on a permanent basis.
Moyes tried to sign Fernandes when the player left Benfica a year ago, but thought his £10m price tag was too high.
At the cut-down price, Valencia have told Everton the deal must be done by June 20 and Moyes is confident he has finally snared his man.

Joao Moutinho (Portugal)
Cost: £8m
Would suit: Liverpool, Everton
Quick-thinking, nice feet, ambitious, the midfielder is in the vanguard of Sporting Lisbon’s gifted young batch of footballers. Good performances in the Portuguese Superliga are not kept quiet for long these days.
Everton are ready to increase their bid for Bristol City teenager Christian Ribeiro to £750,000.
The Toffees have tabled an offer of £500,000 for the 18-year-old defender who has yet to make an appearance for the Championship side.
Ribeiro has played for the Wales Under-21 squad and is nicknamed 'The Neath Nutter'.
Everton boss David Moyes switched to Ribeiro after losing out on his international team-mate Aaron 'Rambo' Ramsey, who joined Arsenal from Cardiff.
