Keane Has Belief In Blues For New Season

Michael Keane has declared the current Everton team as the best club side he has played for and revealed his belief the Blues will continue to take positive strides under boss Marco Silva.

The defender says the team’s end-of-season form shows the heights the Toffees are capable of reaching.

Everton took 21 points from their final 11 matches of the season, regularly mixing vibrant, purposeful attacking play with defensive resilience.

Silva’s men hit 18 goals during this period, while Keane was part of a miserly backline that recorded eight clean sheets.

Keane, who is currently on international duty with England for the Three Lions’ Nations League contests, is confident Everton’s authoritative performances can provide a springboard for a successful 2019-20 campaign.

“It’s the best club team I’ve played for,” he told evertonfc.com. “You see the talent we’ve got in training every day.

“We’ve got a lot of top-quality players and it’s a great squad to be a part of.

“We want to make our fans proud of us and proud of the team they’re watching, and I think in the last few months of the season we did that.

“We’ve set our levels of performance. It’s been good, but we need to carry this form into next season.”

Since joining the Club last summer, manager Silva has consistently spoken of his desire to shape an ambitious Everton team that can compete with any side in the country and approaches every game with the desire to win.

The final three months of the season saw the Blues play five matches against top-six opposition, with Silva’s men recording three victories and drawing two of these contests.

Centre-back Keane believes the Blues’ impressive results against the Premier League’s leading teams highlights the progress made under the Portuguese.

“I think you can see a lot of things coming together,” added Keane.

“It takes time when you have a new manager. He puts his ideas on the training field, and you get bits of it right on the pitch at first, but it takes time to get everything clicking.

"In the final matches of the season, it has happened for us. We know how we want to play, we understand our gameplan more and we’ve got to grips with each other more.

“We went on a great run and I think playing like that will only give us confidence.

“We need to keep it like that next season and stay consistent.”
