Richarlison says receiving an award named after Everton legend Dixie Dean is a “great honour” – and the attacker is aiming to be "even better” in his second Goodison Park campaign.

Brazilian Richarlison was named Young Player of the Season at The Dixies, Everton's end-of-season awards, christened in homage to the Club’s iconic former striker –
who scored 383 goals in 433 appearances after joining from Tranmere Rovers in 1925.

Evertonians voted in significant numbers for Richarlison to claim the young player accolade after the 22-year-old scored 14 goals in a stellar debut season.

“It is a great honour to receive a prize named after such a great goalscorer,” Richarlison told evertontv.

“I want to score lots of goals like Dixie Dean. He is a role model for all us attackers.

“It is really important to receive this prize in his name

“I am really happy to win this award, especially as it is recognition from the fans.

“I try to give back to them by working every day I wear this shirt.

“I want to score even more goals next season and come back even better.”

Marco Silva made Richarlison his first signing after being appointed Everton boss last summer.

The South American, who initially moved to England when Silva took him to Watford from Fluminense in his homeland in 2017, quickly started repaying his manager’s faith.

Richarlison’s explosive early-season form led to him receiving a first Brazil call-up, the player summoned by his country after scoring three goals in his opening two Everton matches – including a double on his debut at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He played 35 Premier League matches – 32 from the start – and was missing from the squad on only three occasions; when serving a two-game suspension in September and on the season's final day at Tottenham Hotspur where Richarlison was sidelined by a rib problem.

The forward, who occupied three different positions across Everton’s frontline in 2018-19, also featured three times in knockout competitions and added an FA Cup strike to his 13 Premier League goals.

Richarlison accumulated seven further international caps following his September debut and is set for a substantial part in Brazil’s assault on their home Copa America this summer.

And the player insists he owes a debt of gratitude to both Silva and Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands for their respective contributions to the finest campaign of his embryonic career.

“Marco and Marcel believe in me and they have been really important in my development this season, both in training and games," said Richarlison.

“They are always talking to me, which really helps with my belief and confidence.

“They need me to be playing well and that is essential for me.

“My teammates' work on the pitch also made it possible for me to be considered for this award.”

Richarlison instantly won favour with Evertonians, who delighted in the player’s conclusive riposte to those who questioned his Goodison transfer.

He followed up his twin-strike at Wolves with another double in November's victory over Brighton & Hove Albion – after marking his home debut by scoring against Southampton.

Richarlison was also on target in significant victories over Chelsea and Manchester United, as Everton finished the campaign by claiming 21 points from 11 matches.

Silva’s side won six and drew three matches in that period, scoring 18 goals, conceding only seven and recording eight clean sheets.

“It was very important for me to start well and my confidence was really high,” added Richarlison.

"I try to give something back to the fans…  it has been this way since I played for [first club] America Mineiro.

“It is important for them and for the players, as well.

“When I arrived here, the fans embraced me and believed in me.

“I need to give everything in this shirt.

“It is so satisfying to win this prize because it was voted for by the fans.

“I need to continue working hard, I am happy here and will continue to honour the shirt and try to bring joy to our fans.”
