Richarlison Reveals Everton Attackers' Vow

Richarlison says Everton’s pack of talented attackers are committed to “reaching a very high level together”.

The exciting forward is in line to win his eighth Brazil cap when the South Americans face Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Richarlison, who made his international bow soon after joining Everton last summer, has struck up a good understanding with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin following his arrival from Watford.

The 21-year-old has 12 Premier League goals – the same number as Sigurdsson and fewer than only seven top-flight players – and has added three in seven appearances for Brazil.

Richarlison accepts representing the five-times world champions comes with a “big responsibility” – but insists he can go a long way to proving he belongs in such gilded company by flourishing in a fluid Everton forward unit, which also has the trio of Ademola Lookman, Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun vying for positions.

“It is very important to have so many strong attacking players,” Richarlison told evertonfc.com.

“We are a group that wants to reach a very high level together.

“It is vital to have players who, during a match, can pull off something – a trick, a piece of skill, a bit of genius – which can decide the game. And we have those players at Everton.

“I am motivated to play at a level which helps Everton and keeps me in the Brazil squad.

“It is a big responsibility to play for Brazil. But I know how to deal with it.

“I feel at home and very happy with the national team.

“Even with the responsibility, I am very proud I can go and be in that environment.”

Richarlison scored twice on his Everton debut at Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August and repeated the trick when he marked his first Brazil start the following month by hitting a double against El Salvador.

He struck again for his country to win a friendly match against Cameroon in November and completed 90 minutes on Saturday when Tite’s side was held 1-1 by Panama.

They tackle the Czechs in Prague on Tuesday night before Richarlison returns to Goodison Park to begin preparations for Everton’s visit to West Ham United on Saturday.

He will go to the London Stadium in good touch for his club after scoring twice in his past two games, including in the victory over Chelsea nine days ago when the forward also won the penalty which Sigurdsson converted on the rebound to seal Everton’s victory.

Moreover, Richarlison will continue his policy of shooting on sight for the Blues, having fired 63 efforts at goal this term.

Sigurdsson for his part has aimed 69 shots, fewer than only eight Premier League players.

And, according to Richarlison, the pair’s readiness to chance their arms is a direct product of manager Marco Silva’s bold brand of football.

“I am always working on this in training. At the end of every session, me, Dominic and Gylfi spend 10 or 20 minutes practising our shooting," said Richarlison.

“It is good for our confidence.

“And also because we know, sometimes in a match we can take a shot from distance that can decide the game. The manager wants us to be brave and always trying to score goals.

“Me and Gylfi have a friendly competition when we practise.

“Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. It goes back and forth a little bit.”

Brazil’s meeting with the Czechs is loaded with significance, coming fewer than three months before a Copa America staged in Richarlison's home country for the first time in 30 years.

And the player admits he is desperate to be involved in his nation’s tilt at winning their first South American title since 2007.

“It is great for my confidence to be with Brazil,” added Richarlison.

“To think I am in the squad? I have been watching Brazil since I was a little kid.

“It is a very, very difficult thing to get into the Brazil national team, so when you achieve that it makes you really happy and you want it to continue for as long as possible."
