Newcastle United's St James' Park has proved a happy hunting ground for Everton in recent times with the Blues having won on five of their past seven visits to this weekend's opponents.
The fixture that started that run also arrived in early March, eight years ago this week.
A Blues team that was 11th in the Premier League and two places behind an Alan Pardew-managed Newcastle headed to the north east looking to close the gap on their rivals but fell behind on 23 minutes when Leon Best headed in against the run of play.
However, the visitors launched a quick comeback, and after Leon Osman levelled with a cool finish just after the half-hour mark, Phil Jagielka athletically stabbed in Leighton Baines' pinpoint free-kick to ensure victory for the Toffees and lift them up into the top half of the table.
