Thursday’s Liverpool Echo features Gylfi Sigurdsson, who says he could feel the “confidence and freedom” returning to Everton’s play during their 3-0 victory at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

The playmaker, who hit his 10th and 11th Premier League goals of the season in the convincing win, also stressed the team’s determination to build on their performance in this weekend’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

“It would be fantastic to back it up with another good performance and another good result on Sunday,” he added.

“These are the games you look forward to before the season starts.”

The Daily Mail also carries quotes from Sigurdsson, who detailed his pride after overtaking Eidur Gudjohnsen to become the top-scoring Icelandic player in Premier League history.

“When I was growing up I wanted to be like Eidur and play in the Premier League,” he said. “It’s fantastic to finally go above him.”

The Echo, meanwhile, reports on Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba’s words of praise for Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the 21-year-old’s goalscoring performance against the Bluebirds.

“He is very good, his movement is good,” Bamba said. “He was vocal as well, he was asking for the ball was shouting to the midfield players to make sure they found him. I think he is a good young English player.”

The local read also speculates Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes could be a potential transfer target for the Blues.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is enjoying a prolific season and has hit 22 goals in 40 appearances for Primeira Liga side.
