Digne 'Giving Everything' To Spark Everton Upturn

Lucas Digne says Everton are working hard to ensure they recapture their early season form.

The Blues will have had a 17-day wait for a fixture when they meet Cardiff City on Tuesday, with the Goodison Park Merseyside derby following quickly on the heels of the trip to South Wales.

And Frenchman Digne says the squad are focused on showing their quality on a more consistent basis when they return to league action.

“We need to be more consistent and we are working to do that, because we have a lot of quality in the team,” said Digne.

“The confidence is here, we know we have quality.

“We have a lot of fans and we can understand they are not happy with the performances sometimes.

“But when you work hard, you can change things very fast.

“For the moment, we are focussed only on Cardiff. And after we have one week to prepare for the derby.

“The two games will be a test. But that is the Premier League.”

Digne was one of six outfield players added to Everton’s squad following Silva’s appointment as manager last summer.

The left-back rapidly adapted to Premier League football after spending his career in France, Italy and Spain ahead of his switch to Merseyside.

He has supplied more crosses than any player in the division, his 197 deliveries totalling 21 more than next best Jose Holebas of Watford. Digne has created 12 ‘big chances’ this term, fewer only than Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool.

The 25-year-old’s excellent start to the campaign won him a recall to France’s World Cup-winning squad. Fellow pre-season signing Richarlison has launched his Brazil career since joining Everton, while Portugal summoned Andre Gomes soon after the ex-Valencia midfielder established himself in Silva’s team.

And Digne insists a strong finish to the season can act to further strengthen the bond in Silva’s squad, particularly with high-flyers Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United all still  due at Goodison Park.

“We know where we need to work and the most important thing is to stay together with the fans,” said Digne.

“We are giving everything in training and want to continue to work and finish as high as we can.

“We are building something in the Club. We are changing a lot of players, new players, like me, like Richie, we need a bit of time.

“When we change a lot, we need time to build something serious, something very good.
“Now we work for the rest of the season and for next season, too.

“We are looking up and we want to finish as high as we can.

“That is the most important thing.

“We have a lot of big games at Goodison and we want to play well at home in front of the fans, they deserve it because they support us all the time.”
