What The Papers Say - February 18

Monday’s Liverpool Echo carries quotes from Bernard, with the Brazilian detailing why Andre Gomes is such an important player for Everton.

“Andre makes the connection between defence and attack and, with the intelligence and quality of pass, manages to put the ball in the offensive transition,” he says.

“He has been very helpful to Everton.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin also features in the Echo.

The striker explains how the young talents in the Everton squad – including England Under-21 teammates Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny and Ademola Lookman – are driving each other to improve.

“We’ve all been in it together and we come in to Finch Farm, sit down at the breakfast table and talk about how we can do better and progress.

“We’re all close, best mates, really, and we’re all honest with each other.”

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, links Everton with a move for Switzerland Under-21 international Eray Comert.

The paper speculates the FC Basel centre-back would cost around £5million.
