In the early hours of September 2, 2008, Everton made an announcement.
After rounds of last-ditch negotiations that had gone right to the wire, the Blues could confirm a transfer deadline beating deal.
And not just any deal - a £15m Club record signing.
It would see 6ft 4ins Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini join the Club's ranks and round-off a productive late shopping spree that had also seen Carlo Nash acquired as a back-up goalkeeper, the arrival of overseas pair Segundo Castillo and Lars Jacobsen and, more notably, the addition of France international striker Louis Saha from Manchester United.
Fellaini would take just five games to get off the mark for his new employers, stabbing in what would prove a point-earning goal against Newcastle United at Goodison Park in early October.
He would trademark that instinctive close-range effort, the first of a quarter century of league strikes for Everton over the next five years that would see the Standard Liege youth product became a firm fans' favourite on Merseyside.
