Kenny's Pride In Davies' Captaincy Honour

Jonjoe Kenny has revealed his pride in seeing close friend and fellow Academy graduate Tom Davies wearing the Everton captain’s armband.

Davies has led the Blues out for their past two Premier League matches, with the 20-year-old having become the Club’s youngest ever starting skipper in the Toffees' 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Rotherham United in August.

Kenny, 21, and Davies progressed through the ranks together at Everton and have gone on to make a combined total of 123 first-team appearances.

The homegrown talents have also represented England at every age group from Under-16 to Under-21 level.

Kenny believes manager Marco Silva’s decision to give Davies the Everton captaincy is testament to the midfielder’s application and hunger.

“We’re all in it together as young lads and myself and Tom have been mates for a long time now,” Kenny explained.

“He has had ups and downs, like all players do, and the way he has bounced back has showed the type of character he’s got – how he gets on the ball and the confidence he has.

“When he’s captain, I’ll always support him and it’s vice-versa, he will always be behind me, too.”

Kenny believes the midfielder’s all-round quality can see him emerge as a key figure for the Blues for years to come.

The Kirkdale-born full-back says Davies’ energy and dynamism helps Everton to get on the front foot during matches - and he is convinced the youngster will only improve as he gains more experience.

“He is a quality player,” said Kenny. “I think people sometimes forget how old Tom is – he is only 20 years of age.

“He brings a lot to the team going forward and he’s a young lad who is very confident.

“He’s a homegrown player and what a player we’ve got at Everton.

“You can see the quality the young lads have here at the Club and we’re all determined to show what we can do.”
