Brands Appointed To Everton Board

Marcel Brands has been appointed to the Board of Everton Football Club.

Dutchman Brands joined Everton as Director of Football in June 2018 following eight successful years with PSV Eindhoven in his homeland.

Brands has already helped implement a number of important changes at Goodison Park and worked closely with manager Marco Silva, Chairman Bill Kenwright and Chief Executive, Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale, to secure the recruitment of seven players during last summer’s transfer window.

He has started work on delivering the Club’s long-term, permanent football strategy.

Brands said: “It gives me a lot of confidence that I’m a Board member now and I hope to do the best for our Club.

“Being at Everton has been even better than I thought it would be. I was working at a great club in Holland and was happy there but it was a great chance for me to come to the Premier League and join Everton.

“At the start I had a great feeling but it’s been a better feeling working here. I work with a lot of great people with blue blood and I’m confident we can achieve many good things in the future.”

Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright added: “We have a great Director of Football who has taken over and changed an awful lot at the club. He has totally reorganised our scouting. He is a cradle-to-grave man.

“He wants our kids to play exactly the same way as Marco’s first team. We are really happy with the team we have.

“I have a close relationship with Marcel where we talk non-stop and consult on most things. He is terrific to work with and very straight and down the line.”

Revealing Brands’ appointment to the Board at Everton’s General Meeting on Tuesday, Professor Barrett-Baxendale said: “It fills me with great pride this evening to announce to you, the appointment of Marcel to the Everton Board.

“This appointment further cements the importance, and permanence, of the position of Director of Football within our structure. I do hope you will join with me in congratulating Marcel on his board appointment.

“A full review of the support provided to the first team was undertaken by Marcel and Marco on arrival, and changes were promptly made to improve our medical and recruitment teams. Additionally, specific requirements around equipment, scheduling, logistics, communications and security were immediately introduced.

“Marcel has now begun his work on delivering the Club’s long-term, permanent football strategy, working closely with the Academy Director and Head of Football Strategy.”
