Marco Silva says the stirring ovation Evertonians afforded Jordan Pickford on Wednesday was important for the goalkeeper – and allowed the 24-year-old England number one to “look forward”.
Silva spoke exclusively to evertontv ahead of Watford’s visit to Goodison Park on Monday.
But before turning his thoughts to the clash with Javi Gracia’s “quality” team, Silva reflected on the fantastic support Pickford received from the stands during Everton’s midweek game against Newcastle United.
Silva’s full interview is available for free to Season Ticket Members and We Are Everton Members and is part of a wide range of exclusive content throughout the 2018-19 campaign which includes live streams of Under-23s and Under-18s games, exclusive features and more.

“It was fantastic what the fans did,” said Silva. “It helped him to look forward – to look forward and nothing else.”
Everton’s players were visibly frustrated following the final whistle of a game against Newcastle which ended all square despite the Blues’ controlling large chunks of the action.
Silva explained that disappointment stemmed from his team’s “winning mentality and fantastic attitude on the pitch”.
Everton’s meeting with Watford represents the first of six Premier League matches in three weeks.
Silva’s side are sixth heading into the weekend’s round of top-flight fixtures and the manager insists Everton will have to be at their best to launch a busy period on a positive note.
“We will face a quality team – and they have high individual quality as well,” said Silva. “Watford are very strong on the counter-attack and have good pace in the team.
“We will have a lot of control in the match and a lot of the ball but we have to keep a good balance in our offensive organisation because they are really strong in those moments.”
