It may only have been two months into the season but when Everton and Liverpool clashed at Goodison Park in October 2010 the stakes were high.
Everton began the day 17th in the Premier League table just one place above the relegation zone... and their visitors.
Neither side had enjoyed a successful start to the campaign, while for the Reds it was also the first fixture at the helm for their new owner John W. Henry.
To Evertonians’ delight, there would be no great lift off for the American here.
The Blues had already had a host of chances before Tim Cahill, so often the scourge of Liverpool, latched on to Seamus Coleman’s cut back to fire the hosts in front on 34 minutes.
Everton remained on top and Mikel Arteta’s thumping finish four minutes after the interval ultimately proved enough to secure a 2-0 victory and the bragging rights on what was the 214th meeting of the two sides.
The result moved Everton up as high as 11th in the standings, while Liverpool remained rooted in the drop zone, slipping a place to 19th.
