Everton Firepower Excites Digne

Lucas Digne has spoken of his excitement about Everton’s prospects this season - declaring the Blues boast the firepower to trouble any opposition.

Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Theo Walcott have kicked off the campaign in blistering style, already hitting 12 goals between them.

Brazilian winger Bernard has produced a series of eye-catching performances, too, while the likes of Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Oumar Niasse and Ademola Lookman have also displayed their quality and wide-ranging attributes.

A further key attacking outlet for Marco Silva’s expressive side has been provided by left-back Digne. The 25-year-old's enterprising forays forward - coupled with his polished defending - has consistently impressed since he arrived from Barcelona this summer.

The former Roma and Paris St Germain man's fine form has seen him rewarded with a recall to the France national squad. Digne won his 22nd international cap on Thursday, playing the full 90 minutes as the world champions battled out a 2-2 draw with Sigurdsson’s Iceland in Guingamp.

Digne's immediate priority will be Les Bleus’ heavyweight Nations League showdown with Germany at the Stade de France on Tuesday night.

His attention will then switch back to Everton, though, and he is eager to experience the backing of a buoyant Goodison Park as the Blues aim to see off Crystal Palace on Sunday. Digne is confident the Toffees' array of dynamic attackers can help to inspire a third Premier League victory on the bounce.

“It’s important to win and play well,” he said. “Against Leicester [in the 2-1 win last Saturday], we improved in our work.

“We have a very good attack and we can score every minute. It’s so difficult for the opposition defence. Now, we need to continue our hard work and continue to improve.

“We’re are already looking forward to playing Crystal Palace in front of our home fans.”

When he takes to the field against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles on Sunday, Digne will be aiming to pick up straight were he left off against the Foxes last time out. The Frenchman’s defensive nous and ambition in attack impressed in equal measure as he made his fifth consecutive Premier League start.

No player won more tackles than Digne at the King Power Stadium, while his total of 27 accurate passes in the opposition half was also a match-high.

Digne’s desire to stamp his imprint on the game, meanwhile, was highlighted by the fact he had more touches of the ball than any other player on the pitch (91).

The left-back has made a rapid acclimatisation to English football - a fact he attributes to the welcoming environment at Everton.

“My teammates helped me a lot and the coaching staff, and the fans, too,” he said.

“It’s so important to have their support. I want to say 'thank you' to them.

“We have won two games in a row now, which is very important. Against Leicester we had a very good reaction when they scored, which was also a positive.

“It was our first win away and we need to continue this form.”
