Keane Wants Blues To Get Back To What They Do Best

Michael Keane insists the Everton squad are focused on replicating their dynamic, authoritative second-half display against Fulham when they travel to Leicester City on Saturday.

The Toffees overpowered the Cottagers after the break in last weekend’s 3-0 victory, with boss Marco Silva praising his side for “displaying the kind of aggression which created openings and opportunities”.

Keane says the Blues will strive to replicate that performance for 90 minutes at the King Power Stadium, as they aim to secure back-to-back Premier League victories.

He added the squad is eager to hit straight back after their penalty shootout defeat to Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

“It’s a massive game against Leicester,” the centre-back told evertontv. “We had a good result at the weekend and we’re fully focused on that game now.

"We played some very good football in the Fulham game, especially in the second half, and we want to bring that into Saturday's game.

“Against Southampton, I think some of the lads who haven’t been playing put in some good performances and showed what they can do - but there’s always room for improvement.

“We came back well in the second half, I think we came back fighting. They had a few chances on the break because obviously we were pushing to try to get that equaliser.

“Theo got that goal and we had a few half-chances towards the end but we couldn’t nick it. Then anything can happen in penalties.”

Keane - who played his third full match on the spin in Tuesday night’s game, having made a swift recovery from the hairline skull fracture he suffered in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on August 25 – admitted the squad were “gutted” by their agonising exit.

Walcott’s equaliser came on 85 minutes – the winger’s third goal of the season cancelling out Danny Ings’ first-half strike.

Keane then had a chance to grab a dramatic winner but could not get sufficiently over his header, with his effort going just over the crossbar.

That led to the shootout and after misses from Richarlison and goalscorer Walcott, the Blues were edged out 4-3 by Mark Hughes’ men.

Keane is convinced the duo boast the character to bounce back quickly from the disappointment.

“Theo scored the goal that got us there [into the shootout] and Richarlison’s been brilliant,” he said.

“But the best players in the world miss penalties – it happens. It’s not a nice way to go out, it’s never a nice way to lose the game but we’ll get around them and I’m sure they’ll be fine.

“Theo’s equaliser was a great goal. I think Oumar did really well when he came on, he slipped the ball to him and it was a nice, tidy finish.

“I felt confident from then on that’s we’d get the win, even if it was on penalties, because we had momentum. But it was not to be.”
