Zouma: Determined Blues 'Together And Working In Same Direction'

Kurt Zouma says “everybody is together and working in the same way” as he revealed Everton's resolve to convert their positive performance against Arsenal into a victory when they take on Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Blues produced an enterprising display at the Emirates Stadium – posing a constant threat and carving out a host of chances against Unai Emery’s side – but two quickfire second-half strikes proved decisive as the Gunners emerged with all three points.

Indeed, the fact Arsenal keeper Petr Cech was named man of the match perhaps best illustrates Everton's progressive display.

The Czech made fine stops from Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott as Marco Silva’s side attacked at will in the first half in north London. The veteran keeper also had to be at his best to keep out Cenk Tosun’s well-hit second-half effort.

France international Zouma – who signed for Everton on loan From Chelsea this summer – insist the Blues' display highlighted the squad's potential and says they are determined to get back on the winning trail when Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham visit L4 on Saturday.

“If you watched the game [against Arsenal] you can see that everybody is working in the same way,” he said.

“We are all together – there is no doubt about it. We want to win games and you can see there is a lot of quality in the team.

“The small details make the difference. For the second goal for Arsenal, there was an offside position, maybe.

“But we can’t control these things. We just have to keep the same mentality, the same behaviour.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we deserved, but it is football. Next week is another game, we are at home and we want to win."

In boss Silva’s first press conference as Everton manager, he revealed his desire to shape a team that “approaches every game with the intention to win”.

This positive mindset was evident as the Blues played on the front foot for large periods against Arsenal.

Zouma says he is relishing playing under a manager with such ambition and is convinced the Toffees are on the right track.

“We came to Arsenal to try to win,” the 23-year-old said. “Unfortunately, it turned out differently.

“We played a good game against a good team and it was a determined performance from the whole team.

“We are proud of ourselves but the idea was to win. We are disappointed about the score because I don’t think we deserved that.

“But we have to move on and work to try to get a victory next week.”
