Everton stars Lucas Digne and Joao Virginia surprised pupils at Holy Catholic Primary School in Bootle this week by joining in with one of their Premier League Primary Stars PE lessons.
Ahead of the Blues' clash with West Ham on Sunday, the summer signings took time out after training to visit the school and hand over a Premier League Primary Stars equipment pack, filled with essential sports gear that can be used in lessons to help inspire children to learn and be active.
The session, delivered by Everton in the Community, involved Digne and Virginia warming up with the children, playing a number of games including a ‘make a word’ game with alphabet titles.
Digne said: “It’s been an amazing day. When I was a child I looked at footballers with wide eyes because you see them as heroes. It’s been special to see the look on the kids’ faces today. I really enjoyed spending time with the children and seeing their big smiles."
The school visit coincides with the opening of the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme application window, which enables primary school teachers across England and Wales to apply for a free football strip or a free equipment pack like the one donated by Digne and Virginia.
Everton in the Community currently work in 11 primary schools across Liverpool and Knowsley throughout the academic year delivering PE, PSHE, literacy and numeracy sessions.
Everton is one of 101 Premier League, EFL and National League clubs in England and Wales which provides in-school support to teachers and pupils as part of Premier League Primary Stars - the organisation’s education-linked community programme.
