What The Papers Say - September 7

Scotland Under-21 boss Scot Gemmill heaps praise on Toffees striker Fraser Hornby in Friday's edition of the Daily Record.

Hornby netted a hat-trick in the Scots' 3-0 European Championship qualifying victory over Andorra on Thursday, leaving former Everton midfielder Gemmill to suggest the 18-year-old's "physicality, intelligence and talent" have him on schedule to become "the full package".

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford features in a number of today's publications. Pickford is currently on international duty with England and spoke to The Independent at Three Lions' training base St George's Park ahead of Saturday's Nations League encounter with Spain.

The 24-year-old explains how his football upbringing informs his approach to the game today and insists he is not interested in performing "tricks" with the ball at his feet.

Seamus Coleman is widely quoted following Republic of Ireland's 4-1 defeat in Wales. The Everton right-back and Irish skipper claims his side were "not good enough on the ball" in Cardiff and refused to use Ireland's extensive injury list as an excuse for their below-par display.

Ex-Blues captain Kevin Ratcliffe tells the Liverpool Echo he is excited by the potential of Kurt Zouma and likens the powerful France international centre-half to compatriot and former Everton defender Sylvain Distin.

Ratcliffe insists Zouma has "already improved the side" and claims the battle between Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne to fill Everton's left-back spot is having a similarly positive effect on Marco Silva's team.

In a snippet of transfer talk, Italian paper Calciomercato says Everton is one of a cluster of elite clubs interested in signing 16-year-old USA youth international full-back George Bello from Atlanta United.
