WATCH: The Everton Trialist Turned NFL Star

Josh Lambo is one of the NFL’s star turns and preparing to try to kick Jacksonville Jaguars all the way to the Super Bowl as the new American football season starts on Thursday night.

But had he not been tripped up by red tape following a trial with Everton in 2006, Lambo could conceivably have been channelling his sporting talent into challenging Jordan Pickford for the Blues' goalkeeping gloves.

The 27-year-old, whose Jacksonville team came within one match of reaching last year’s Super Bowl, recently visited London.

And evertontv travelled south to meet Lambo – a good enough footballer to represent USA in the 2007 Under-17 World Cup.

He told us about his Everton experience – including which player promised to “send you on the first boat back to America” if his team lost a training-ground match – remembered shutting out a superstar duo in that World Cup 11 years ago, and detailed his extraordinary conversion into one of American Football’s most prolific goal kickers.
