George Debuts In Lionesses Win

Everton Ladies defender played the full 90 minutes as she made her senior England debut against Kazakhstan.

As one of seven players to make their maiden appearances for the Lionesses, George was deployed at left-back by head coach Phil Neville as his charges ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

“I’m so happy to finally have made my England debut, and to get it in a 6-0 victory too!" said a delighted George. "Now I know I just need to continue to work hard and try and push for a place in the squad moving forward.

“It’s all about making sure I work hard for Everton and hopefully another international call-up will follow.

“The England camp has been great from start to finish. Obviously we went to Wales first and it was great to be a part of the atmosphere around that game.

“But Kazakhstan will be one to remember in particular for me, of course, as the place I made my England debut.”

With the Lionesses already qualified for next summer’s World Cup, the trip to eastern Europe was a chance to celebrate reaching France, after Neville’s side beat Wales 3-0 last week.

And goals from Beth Mead and Rachel Daly had them in charge at half time. Further goals from Mead, Izzy Christiansen, Lucy Staniforth and Lucy Bronze saw England complete their qualifying campaign in emphatic fashion.

Elsewhere, the Toffees’ Dutch duo of Inessa Kaagman and Siri Worm watched on as European Champions Netherlands were dealt a blow in their own hopes of reaching the 2019 World Cup.

Their 2-1 defeat to Norway saw them relinquish top spot in their qualifying group, meaning they must now navigate a potential tricky play-off against one of either Denmark, Belgium or Switzerland.

Simone Magill also saw action, starting for Northern Ireland in their final qualifier against Slovakia, a game in which former Toffees defender Julie Nelson became the first woman to reach 100 international caps.
