What The Papers Say – August 17

Everton attacker Richarlison continues to generate plenty of newspaper interest following his explosive start to life with the Blues. And former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright features in the Daily Star lauding the Brazilian's "amazing" two-goal display at Wolverhampton Wanderers last week and insisting Richarlison could be a "massive asset" for Everton this term.

Marco Silva's Toffees were paired with Championship team Rotherham United when the draw for the Carabao Cup second round was staged last night.

That tie – set to be contested in the final week of August – is dissected across today's publications.

The Liverpool Echo suggests the competition provides Everton their "best chance of silverware" since the 1995 FA Cup success, while the same paper analyses how  the Club's summer transfer business has changed the face of the Blues' squad.

Toffees forward Henry Onyekuru made his competitive debut for loan team Galatasaray in the Istanbul side's 3-1 victory over Ankaragucu last week. And he has told media in Turkey that the country's Super Lig represents a significant step up from the top flight in Belgium, where the Nigerian spent last term with Anderlecht.

Everton defender Cuco Martina is said by the Echo to be weighing up loan offers from Championship pair Middlesbrough and Stoke City.

Morgan Schneiderlin is poised to face former club Southampton on Saturday and the Blues midfielder is quoted in a number of outlets discussing manager Silva's positive impact on his game and how Everton's new arrivals can help the Club "achieve great things".

Southampton manager Mark Hughes hosted his pre-match press conference at the club's Staplewood training complex yesterday and a host of papers report news that Saints' new forward Mohamed Elyounoussi's hamstring injury could rule him out of this weekend's Goodison clash.
