Everton Complete Mina Signing

Yerry Mina says he is ready to “compete and do my best for Everton” after signing a five-year deal to the end of June 2023.

The Colombia international centre-back was one of the World Cup’s standout performers and moves to Goodison Park after being part of Barcelona’s League and Cup-winning side last season.

Mina, who has 15 caps for his country, was also a League winner with Palmeiras in Brazil in 2016.

“It is important that the Club want to fight for something,” Mina told evertontv. “This is why I am here.

“I have watched the Premier League for a long time. It is the best league in the world. This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to competing here.

“I know about Everton’s players and I look forward to being able to play with my new team. I have spoken a lot to the coach and I know his passion for Everton and determination to be successful. I am also determined to do my best for Everton.”

Everton manager Marco Silva said: “Mina is a quality player, a good defender, strong in the challenge and in the duels. He has good knowledge of the position he plays and he is good on the ball as well. He will contribute in the build-up play and will also be very strong at defensive and offensive set-pieces.”

The 23-year-old scored in all three of his appearances for Colombia as they reached the last-16 of the World Cup in Russia.

“The World Cup was incredible and I will never forget it,” added Mina, who joins Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes in swapping Barcelona for Everton this month.

“I worked hard during my holiday and now I am ready to play and do important things with the Club. I am ready to train and work.

“I spoke to Lucas and he told me all about the Club, which also made me keen to come here.

“I spoke with Andre, too. He is a good guy and we want to do our best for Everton.”

Mina began his professional career with Deportivo Pasto in his homeland in 2012, securing a move to Independiente Santa Fe in 2013.

He spent two-and-a-half years with the Bogota club, winning the 2015 Copa Sudamericana, South America’s Europa League equivalent.

Mina joined Palmeiras in May 2016 and was a key figure as the side from Sao Paulo ended their 22-year wait for a domestic title. He was included in the Serie A team of the season.
