New Boy Virginia Inspired By Howard Heroics

When Tim Howard was busy making his record 15 saves in a single World Cup match for USA against Belgium back in 2014, little did the then Everton goalkeeper know he was capturing the imagination of a Blues stopper of the future.

Teenager Joao Virginia moved to Goodison Park from Arsenal last week, capping a fine summer that has also seen him sample his own international success with Portugal Under-19s.

The 18-year-old discusses his nation's Euro Under-19 triumph, the motivations behind his switch to the Toffees and why Howard’s heroics in Brazil four years ago have stuck with him in his exclusive first interview with evertontv.
