Maarten Stekelenburg believes the vast experience he has gained over his 16-year career will benefit Jordan Pickford and Everton after he agreed a new deal with the Club to the end of June 2020.
Stekelenburg, 35, who played in the World Cup final with Holland in 2010, has vowed to push Everton and England’s No.1, who was Everton’s Player of the Season, Players’ Player and Young Player in 2017-18.
With Pickford on an extended break after reaching the World Cup semi-finals with England, Stekelenburg is adamant that the competition between the pair can drive both men to realise their best form.
“Jordan had a very good 2017-18 season and played superbly as well for England at the World Cup,” Stekelenburg told evertontv.
“I understand my role and I will try to compete with Jordan and push him to continue to get better as well.
“For me, it was tough last year because I had an injury and it took me a few months to come back from that.
“But I’m fit now, I’ve played in our pre-season games and I’m very much looking forward to Jordan getting back here so we can push one another.”
