Richarlison: I've Suffered A Lot But It's Been Worth It To Get Here

Richarlison has told evertontv he was too excited to sleep on the eve of his transfer to Goodison Park.

The gifted 21-year-old forward sat down with the Club’s official television channel immediately after signing his five-year Everton deal to talk about his colourful childhood in Brazil and fascinating career to date.

Richarlison was raised in Nova Venecia, a gritty municipality in the south east of his homeland and revealed “a lot of my friends are in jail or dead as they got caught up in the world of drugs and guns”.

The young Richarlison resolved to steer clear of bother in order to pursue his dream of cracking it as a professional footballer.

He overcame the distinct disadvantage of having to play barefoot when his aunt enrolled him in a football academy, while everybody around him raced about with trainers on their feet.

Richarlison recalls the “tense moment” when “two guys suddenly appeared pointing a gun at my head”.

“To get to where I am I’ve suffered a lot but it’s been worth it,” confided the former Fluminense star, who was an instant hit when he arrived in the Premier League 12 months ago.

It transpired that all roads for Richarlison led to Goodison and, after sampling the ground’s “great atmosphere” as a Watford player last term, he cannot wait to make it his home and play for the Evertonians who “drive their team on against the opposition”.

Richarlison also discloses which superstar compatriot he has turned to for advice as he starts house hunting in the north west – and a whole lot more.
