Bruinenberg: Dutch Girls Will Help Me Settle

New Ladies signing Dominique Bruinenberg admits the presence of fellow Dutch players Siri Worm and Inessa Kaagman will help her settle quickly at Everton.

The former Sunderland midfielder linked up with the Blue Girls on Tuesday following her departure from the Black Cats this summer, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Bruinenberg revealed she has lined up alongside Toffees left-back Worm in the past and has come across fellow new signing Kaagman back in her native Holland.

“I do know them a little already,” she said. “I played with Siri in the Holland Under-19s squad and I know Inessa from playing in the league back home.

“It is nice to have a couple of Dutch girls in the squad. On my first day, I spoke a little bit with Inessa in our language and it’s just nice to have a few Dutch players with me.”

The 25-year-old former Telstar and Den Haag player first arrived in England when she joined Sunderland prior to the 2017 Spring Series. She made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats last season, including both WSL 1 games against Everton.

Bruinenberg is delighted to be continuing her career in England, having also played a season in Italy with Verona, and hopes to make her mark with the Blue Girls when the season kicks off in August.

“I have really enjoyed playing in England,” she added. “Compared to Holland, the league is much stronger and the game is more intense. It’s a lot faster but I would say it matches my game.

“I told the girls on my first morning that, having played against them, I thought they were fit and wanted to play football. For me, that is what I like to do, too – get on the ball and play. They did that last season so I had a good impression of them.

“I’m looking forward to working with Andy [Spence]. We spoke a little bit about how he wants to play and that matches how I want to play as well.

“I hope that my game will fit into the team here. I know they like to play real football and get on the ball. There are fast players up front so that will suit my style because I am always looking to pick up possession, turn and play a great ball that someone else can finish.”
