10. BENI BANINGIME v Chelsea, 25 August 2017
Chelsea’s team may have boasted Eden Hazard (the Belgian was on his way back from an ankle injury) but that didn’t stop the young Blues cruising to a 3-0 win in the capital, this precise low shot from Baningime being the pick of the goals.
9. SHAYNE LAVERY v Swansea City, 27 October 2017
Shayne Lavery began the season by breaking into the Blues’ Under-23s and would end it by earning a first senior international cap for Northern Ireland. This predator’s finish against the Swans showed just why he caught the eye of David Unsworth - and then his nation.
8. DAVID HENEN v Manchester City, 13 October 2017
Everton brilliantly turned defence into attack to punish a stunned Manchester City, Henen latching on to Sambou’s through ball and then biding his time before confidently putting the seal on another 3-0 victory on the road.
7. ALEX DENNY v Leicester City, 26 February 2018
A great team move, this goal owed much to the work of Antony Gordon down the Everton left and got the finish it deserved once Jose Baxter had nudged the ball on to the waiting Denny.
6. ANTONY EVANS v Tottenham Hotspur, 15 January 2018
A goal that demonstrated determination and deftness in equal measure, Evans somehow turned a Tottenham throw-in in to an Everton winner as the Blues kicked off the new year with a notable 2-1 victory.
5. FRASER HORNBY v Leicester City, 11 December 2017
Another example of how quickly David Unsworth’s side can make opponents pay on the counter, Hornby still had plenty to do when he picked up possession on the edge of the box. As it was, three Leicester defenders couldn’t stop him bustling his way through to get his name on the scoresheet in the East Midlands.
4. LUKE GARBUTT v Manchester City, 13 October 2017
The second goal from October’s 3-0 win at City to feature in our countdown, it’s a peach of a free-kick from Garbutt that City goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw was simply powerless to stop.
3. ADEMOLA LOOKMAN v Tottenham Hotspur, 10 September 2017
Note how Lookman is hugging the touchline when he first receives possession. It’s a neat one-two and tidy foot work that gets to him to the edge of the box… the finish speaks for itself.
2. ANTONY EVANS v Swansea City, 5 March 2018
The second free-kick in our countdown… and a second entry for Evans. It’s postage stamp stuff from the midfielder - and in a 2-0 win at Goodison Park to boot!
1. BASSALA SAMBOU v Portsmouth, 23 January 2018
And the Grand Old Lady makes an appearance for our winner, too. From an Everton throw-in, Sambou brilliantly controls the ball with his chest, turning his marker in the process. The finish is then unstoppable - a swerving, dipping shot that was a fitting finale to a comfortable 3-0 win and now our countdown of the best Under-23s goal of 2017/18.
