What The Papers Say - 24 May

Marcel Brands, Everton’s new Director of Football, features across Thursday’s local and national newspapers.

The Dutchman will assume his role in June but has already outlined what the Club is seeking in terms of recruiting a new manager.

The Liverpool Echo carries quotes from Brands explaining that the Blues are looking for a “modern coach” who “wants to work with young players”, while the Daily Star believes he will meet with Marco Silva to discuss the Goodison Park vacancy.

The Daily Mail reports that Wayne Rooney is in Washington ahead of a rumoured move to MLS side DC United, although the Echo says teammate Leighton Baines holds no interest in a move to the States after he was linked with LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC.

Finally, Idrissa Gana Gueye tells the local read that Everton should be aiming for a return to European football next season.
