10. OUMAR NIASSE v Bournemouth, 23 September 2017
Three days after netting his first Everton goal in a Carabao Cup victory over Sunderland, Oumar Niasse was the Goodison hero again. Stepping off the bench with the Blues trailing by a goal to nil, the Senegalese striker helped himself to a match-winning brace, his first an emphatic finish after latching on to Tom Davies’ excellent threaded pass.
9. CENK TOSUN v Brighton and Hove Albion, 10 March 2018
Coming just a week after he had opened his Everton account at Burnley, Cenk Tosun’s first Goodison goal was one to remember. On his long-awaited return from injury, Leighton Baines made one of his trademark darts forward, played a neat one-two with Tosun and then laid it back to the Turk to take a touch and fire past goalkeeper Mat Ryan via a satisfying lick off the underside of the crossbar.
8. CENK TOSUN v Huddersfield Town, 28 April 2017
Striker Tosun ended his first season on Merseyside with five goals to his name and, by our reckoning, he saved his best until last. Fellow January arrival Theo Walcott was the creator, gliding past two Huddersfield defenders before stabbing his teammate through on goal. Tosun did the rest, neatly steering the ball across keeper Jonas Lössl and in via the post from the edge of the 18-yard box.
7. GYLFI SIGURDSSON v Liverpool, 5 January 2018
And so starts the Sigurdsson show. The first of four entries from the Icelander may have come on a night of ultimate disappointment for the Blues but his pinpoint side-foot finish from 20-yards out at Anfield was a fitting finish to a devastating team counter attack that sparked wild scenes of celebration amongst Evertonians behind the goal. And what was Jagielka doing up there?
6. OUMAR NIASSE v Sunderland, 20 September 2017
We’ve already mentioned this one above and it was a belter to get the striker’s Everton career properly up and running. Industrious closing down from Muhamed Besic won back possession inside the Sunderland half, Tom Davies perfectly picked out the movement of Niasse inside the box, and the substitute took the ball down on his chest before lifting it over Jason Steele with a deft flick of his right boot.
5. WAYNE ROONEY v Arsenal, 22 October 2017
The build-up to the visit of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal was all about the fixture falling almost exactly 15 years to the day a 16-year-old Wayne Rooney stunned the Gunners and announced himself to the football world in spectacular fashion. Cue Rooney picking up possession 25 yards out with 12 minutes gone and bending home a screamer with that wand-like right foot.
4. GYLFI SIGURDSSON v Swansea City, 18 December 2017
If there was an air of inevitability about goal number five in our list, ditto this one. Facing his former side for the first time since completing a protracted Club-record move to Goodison in August, Sigurdsson reminded everyone why the Blues were so desperate to land his signature, cutting in from the left and letting fly with an unstoppable right-foot shot from the edge of the box.
3. GYLFI SIGURDSSON v Southampton, 26 November 2017
Firstly, there’s the more than decent build-up play involving Aaron Lennon, Kevin Mirallas and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Secondly, there’s some Cruyff-like footwork from Sigurdsson to dumbfound Southampton’s Steven Davis. And then there’s the ball hitting the woodwork three times before crossing the line. Exquisite.
2. GYLFI SIGURDSSON v Hajduk Split, 24 August 2017
It’s your full debut, you’re the Club’s record signing and 13 seconds in to the second half the ball bounces up in front of you 50 yards out. What do you do? If you’re Gylfi Sigurdsson, you volley it first time over the goalkeeper and then celebrate with the ice-cool temperament of a man who knows he’s going to end up filling three of the top four slots in his Club’s end of season goal rundown…
1. WAYNE ROONEY v West Ham United, 29 November 2017
…but not top spot. It was always going to take something special to trump a 50-yard volley. In truth, you’d have forgiven Sigurdsson for assuming he’d sewn up this competition after that late August night in Split. But when, from inside his own half, Wayne Rooney redirected Joe Hart’s bobbling clearance back over his former England teammate and two other West Ham defenders into the net, the Icelander would have known the game was up. Rooney’s first goal at the Gwladys Street since returning to Goodison and a hat-trick strike to boot, it was a deserving winner of your - and now our - Everton goal of the season.
