Young Blues Striker Earns Northern Ireland Call-Up

Shayne Lavery has been called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad for upcoming friendlies against Panama and Costa Rica.

The Everton Under-23s striker has been added by boss Michael O’Neill along with Rangers’ Jordan Thompson after Cameron McGeehan (ankle) and Ollie Norwood (in Fulham squad for Championship playoff final) both withdrew.

The 19-year-old Lavery was an unused substitute for Northern Ireland’s friendly against South Korea in March, having scored for his national side’s Under-21s in a 5-3 loss to Spain earlier that month.

The forward was named in Everton's senior matchday squad for the Europa League clash at Cypriot side Apollon Limassol in December.

Northern Ireland travel to Central America on Saturday ahead of the first friendly in Panama City on 29 May, before meeting Costa Rica in San Jose on 3 June.
