New Deal For Defender Pennington

Matthew Pennington has signed a new three-year contract which will commit the 23-year-old defender to the Club to the end of June 2021.

Pennington spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Championship side Leeds United, making 22 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

The Academy product made three appearances for Everton’s first team last season when he also netted his first Blues goal in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

“I am delighted with my new contract,” Pennington told evertonfc.com. “This is the Club I have been at since I was a little boy and I am excited to extend my stay here and remain in the royal blue of Everton.

“It’s great to see some of the young lads like Tom Davies and Jonjoe Kenny getting opportunities. These are players who I have come through the ranks with and to see them playing in the first team is great and gives me inspiration.”

In total, Warrington-born Pennington has made seven appearances for the Toffees since making his debut in a League Cup second round victory over Barnsley in August 2015 and will look to build on that total next season.

The defender, who came to the Club as an 11-year-old, has previously had loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Coventry City and Walsall.
