Stat Pack: Huddersfield Town

Everton make their first ever Premier League trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon looking to make it back-to-back wins in the space of six days.

But how are our opponents shaping up ahead of the Club’s visit to the John Smith’s Stadium? And what are the must-know numbers as we prepare for our 61st meeting with the Terriers?

We asked Blues statistician Gavin Buckland and our friends at evertonresult.com to give us the lowdown…

FORM

Everton go into Saturday’s game aiming to extend their unbeaten run to four games following the draws with Liverpool and Swansea City and Monday night’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. Prior to the goalless draw at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium earlier this month, the Blues won 2-1 on the road at Stoke City, meaning they are also looking to go a third away outing without defeat. The victory over the Magpies, ensured thanks to Theo Walcott’s second-half strike at Goodison, has left Everton eighth in the Premier League table with just three games of the 2017/18 season to go.

Huddersfield Town, meanwhile, have four fixtures remaining as they aim to guarantee survival in their debut Premier League campaign. David Wagner’s side are currently six points clear of both Southampton and Stoke City, who sit 18th and 19th respectively, but face Manchester City and Chelsea away after this weekend, before entertaining Arsenal on the final day. Tom Ince’s 91st-minute winner against Watford last time out sealed a vital 1-0 victory that followed an ill-timed run of five matches without a win.

MUST-KNOW NUMBERS

1972 -The last time Everton played an away league fixture against Huddersfield Town. The game at the Terriers' former Leeds Road home ended in a 0-0 draw.

1998 - The year of our last visit to Huddersfield Town in any competition, when a Dave Watson (below) goal helped earn a 1-1 draw in the first leg of a League Cup second round clash. Olivier Dacourt and Marco Materazzi both struck in a 2-1 second leg victory at Goodison - but only after Marcus Stewart’s 44th-second goal had given Walter Smith’s side an early scare.

8 - The number of meetings between the two sides since we last lost to the Terriers in March 1956 (W4 D4). Huddersfield’s goal that afternoon came after just 15 seconds - and from the boot of former Blues favourite Dave Hickson (below)! ‘The Cannonball Kid’ would return to Everton in 1957 and enjoy another two seasons at Goodison Park.

11 -The number of points Everton have taken from their past six Premier League games (W3 D2 L1).

3 - The number of clean sheets the Toffees have kept in their past six games, having recorded none in the previous 10.

2 - We have twice travelled to Huddersfield Town on 28 April in the past and twice come away with victory. A Jock Dodds hat-trick inspired a 3-1 win in 1948, 18 years after Arthur Rigby bagged both in a 2-1 triumph.

1 -The total number of games Everton have lost in their past 23 meetings with promoted sides (W13 D9 L1).

6 - The number of games Huddersfield Town have both won and lost at home this season. Their record reads P17 W6 D5 L6 F16 A22.

48 - Huddersfield Town will be Everton’s 48th different away opponent since the Premier League began.

1300 - The number of Premier League goals Everton will reach if they net at the John Smith’s Stadium.
