What The Papers Say - 18 April

The Daily Mail carries quotes from Michael Keane, who says Everton stopper Jordan Pickford “can go all the way to the top”.

The Blues defender hailed Pickford’s shot-stopping, distribution and presence. He also tipped the 24-year-old to be England’s number one at this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.

The Liverpool Echo, meanwhile, features praise for the Blues’ goalkeeping coach, Martyn Margetson.

Danny Gabbidon – who played with Margetson at Cardiff City and was also in several Wales squads when the former Manchester City stopper was their keeper coach – says Pickford “will improve no end working with him”.

The local read also reports on Everton’s Academy Day, which saw the Blues’ first-team stars train and interact with the Club’s young talents.

Toffees midfielder Beni Baningime is quoted, admitting it felt “crazy” to come back to Academy Day as member of the senior squad, having first attended as a youth player.

Blues boss Sam Allardyce added that Everton’s Academy “is as good as anywhere I’ve worked”.
