What The Papers Say – 15 April

The Sunday Express carries quotes from Everton legend Graeme Sharp, who has praised Wayne Rooney’s "will and desire".

The former Blues striker also hailed Rooney's creativity, as well as his leadership qualities.

In the Yorkshire Post, Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom says the Whites’ Everton loanee Matthew Pennington “deserves applauding” after making a rapid recovery from a calf injury.

The defender made his comeback in Leeds’ clash at Aston Villa on Friday night, despite suffering the injury just 10 days previously.

Heckingbottom’s depleted side were beaten 1-0 but the manager praised the 23-year-old for making himself available for the game at Villa Park and says he "stood up to the challenge well". If not for Pennington, the Whites would have been forced to name four current Academy players across their backline.
