What The Papers Say - 29 March

Everton continue to be linked with a swoop for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, with the Daily Star claiming the Blues are in "pole position" to land the England international if he leaves the Emirates Stadium at the end of his contract in the summer.

The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, tips Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to be England's first-choice number one at the World Cup finals in Russia.

The Daily Mail features a photograph-led piece on the four men vying for the Three Lions' gloves – and says Pickford has edged ahead of Stoke City's Jack Butland in the running for the job.

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany is quoted in the same paper saying he expects his team's trip to Goodison Park this weekend to be "as hard as it gets".

Former Republic of Ireland and Leeds United midfielder Johnny Giles tells the Irish Independent that Everton right-back Seamus Coleman's return was one of the few positive aspects to come out of the country's friendly meeting with Turkey last week.

The Liverpool Echo casts its gaze forward to the summer and potential ins and outs at Goodison Park.

And Nottingham Forest's two-times European Cup-winning legend Kenny Burns is quoted in the Echo advising Everton attacker Kieran Dowell to go back out on loan next season – adding it would be "great" if the 20-year-old continued his development at Forest, where he is spending the current campaign.
