Midfielder Kieran Dowell was in the Nottingham Forest starting line-up as they battled out a 0-0 draw with play-off hopefuls Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
Dowell played for just over an hour before being brought off for Joe Lolley. Forest remain 16th in the Championship table.
Centre-back Matthew Pennington got 90 minutes under his belt but his Leeds United side were beaten 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road.
Leeds thought they had rescued a point when Jay-Roy Grot struck six minutes from time to cancel out Atdhe Nuhiu's opener but the Kosovo international then poked home a winner in stoppage-time to secure a dramatic victory for the Owls. Leeds drop to 14th in the table following the defeat.
Muhamed Besic played 75 minutes as Middlesbrough drew 1-1 at Brentford. Boro remain in sixth – in the final play-off spot – one point ahead of Bristol City.
City closed the gap on Boro after a 1-0 win at home to Ipswich Town, who had Callum Connolly in their starting XI. The Tractor Boys remain in 12th place.
Defender Antonee Robinson came on for the final nine minutes as Bolton Wanderers held out for an excellent 1-0 win against automatic promotion contenders Aston Villa at the Macron Stadium. The victory lifts Wanderers up to 19th, six points clear of the relegation places.
In League One, striker Boris Mathis was brought on for the final nine minutes as his Northampton Town side were beaten 3-0 by Rotherham. The defeat means the Cobblers slip into the drop zone in 21st.
In League Two, goalkeeper Louis Gray was on the bench as 10th-placed Carlisle United drew 2-2 at home to Crawley Town.
Away from these shores, Sandro Ramirez was a 63rd-minute substitute for Sevilla but could not prevent his side from being beaten 2-1 at Leganes. Vicenzo Montella’s men drop to sixth in La Liga.
In the Bundesliga, Ademola Lookman was an unused substitute as RB Leipzig secured a shock 2-1 home triumph over runaway leaders Bayern Munich. Leipzig remain in sixth place.
