home: Jeffers Recalls 4-4 Derby Rollercoaster

Welcome, Marco!

Everything you need to know about the new boss here.

Wednesday 28 February is the deadline for renewing Season Ticket holders to take advantage of our 11-month Direct Debit option for 2018/19.

As part of our 2018/19 Season Ticket campaign, ‘home’, we are asking Evertonians for their memories of Goodison Park.

Today it’s the turn of none other than former Toffees striker turned Under-23s assistant coach Francis Jeffers.

Born into an avid family of Evertonians, Jeffers grew up just a stone’s throw from the Grand Old Lady, on Goodison Road.

He would go on to realise his boyhood dream of playing for his beloved Blues, and hit 22 goals in 82 appearances during two spells with the Club.

Those early memories of watching on from the stands, however, are just as precious.

And there was one famously exhilarating Merseyside derby Jeffers recalls where the drama all got a little too much for the then 10-year-old…

“When I think of one that sticks out – it’s the 4-4 against Liverpool [in the FA Cup fifth round replay of 1991],” he says. “I left the ground twice because Liverpool had scored. We equalised in the last minute and I ran back in and found another seat, or stood on the terraces as it was then.

“Then I was back out again [when Liverpool went 4-3 ahead in extra-time], nearly crying, and then back in because we’d equalised again. They’re the days I remember.”
