Tosun Boosted By "Perfect" Dubai Camp

Cenk Tosun has revealed how Everton's Dubai training camp was the "perfect" way "to help me adapt even further to my new club" as the striker reiterated his determination to help the Blues achieve success.

The 25-cap Turkey international – who arrived at Goodison Park from Besiktas in January – said the camp allowed him to forge closer bonds with his teammates, and he believes the physical work carried out will be “really beneficial” as he adapts to English football.

Tosun joined the Blues last month after three-and-a-half years with Besiktas where he scored 41 goals in 96 appearances, including netting four times in this season's Champions League group stage.

The powerful forward, who was born in Germany, says he has settled in well on Merseyside but outlined the many added benefits of the Toffees' training camp in Dubai ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash at Watford.

“We didn’t go to Dubai for sun and relaxation”, the 26-year-old said. “We trained hard, with sessions on the grass followed by gym sessions and then recuperation in the late afternoons. The temperatures were hot and we worked hard each day.

“Team-bonding is very important and getting to know your teammates as the people they are, as individuals.

“Spending every day around the guys means that we know one another better now. I’ve settled in very well, I really believe that. But the training camp in Dubai was perfect to help me adapt even further to my new surroundings, my new club, a new league. We had a lot of fun along with the serious work and I hope it will help me on the pitch for the next games. I believe it will.”

While Tosun concedes moving to the Premier League from the Turkish top-flight represents a significant cultural shift, he says he’s relishing the challenge.

“The Premier League is more physical than how the game is played in Turkey, but I like this,” he said. “I really enjoy the high-tempo of the game here. It’s hard physically, it’s a tough game, but I embrace this. The first few weeks were difficult maybe for my body and the adjustment, but I can feel already that I’m adapting and I’m more comfortable now.”

Having penned a deal until the end of June 2022, Tosun remains hugely excited about his future at Everton. He believes the Club is the ideal place for him to realise his ambitions and he wants a strong finish to the season, with the Blues currently two points behind seventh-placed Burnley having been two points above the relegation zone going into the home fixture against West Ham at the end of November.

“I want to be a player that can help Everton to achieve what we want to achieve as a Club,” added Tosun. “I am working hard to be that player.

“In the long-term I want to win some silverware in my career at Everton.

“Perhaps this season it will be tough to achieve the goals we would set out for ourselves because the first part of the season didn’t really go to plan.

“But we have turned things around and are only two points back from seventh position, so we have given ourselves a chance.”
