Loan Round-Up: Mirallas Returns In Olympiakos Win

Kevin Mirallas made his second 'debut' for Olympiakos as they saw off bottom club Platanias at the weekend.

The Belgium winger enjoyed two seasons in Greece prior to his move to Everton in 2012 and made his return to the reigning Superleague champions earlier this month when he signed on loan until the end of the season.

And Mirallas played 85 minutes of a 2-0 success that saw third-place Olympiakos – who have a game in hand on their title rivals - close the gap on leaders AEK Athens to just two points.

Another debutant during the latest round of games was Harry Charsley, who made the first appearance of his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers as they lost 2-0 at in-form Brentford.

The Bees went ahead in the 40th minute through Florian Jozefzoon, before Neal Maupay sealed a result that sees the west Londoners make it 13 games unbeaten at their Griffin Park home.

Charsley, who made the switch to the Macron Stadium the day before the game, played 55 minutes before making way for Will Buckley. Fellow Everton youngster Antonee Robinson also made the 22nd appearance of his own loan spell with the Trotters, who remain a point off the bottom three in the Championship.

Callum Connolly, like Robinson, played the full 90 minutes as his Ipswich Town side claimed a 1-0 win at Portman Road over play-off chasing Leeds United. The Tractor Boys won it through Manchester City loanee Bersant Celina, with the result moving them to within four points of the top six themselves.

After their FA Cup exploits in knocking out holders Arsenal last week, Nottingham Forest were brought back down to earth as they lost 1-0 to Aston Villa. With new manager Aitor Karanka in the dugout for the first time, Kieran Dowell – who netted against the Gunners – played the full game but couldn’t stop the Villans snatching all three points courtesy of Scott Hogan’s first-half goal.

Finally, Tyias Browning featured as Sunderland lost 4-0 away at promotion hopefuls Cardiff City. Chris Coleman’s side, however, remain three points off safety despite their position at the foot of the Championship table.

Several Everton loanees missed out on the weekend’s action. Brendan Galloway was not involved in the Black Cats’ defeat in Wales, Matthew Pennington missed Leeds’ match at Ipswich and Joe Williams sat out the first of three matches after his red card against Millwall last week.
